HoopKnowlogy: Shooting Tips and Tricks
Shooter’s always make the team! There is no truer statement. I can personally recall from the many teams I played on, that good jump shooters always made the team and got significant play time. Most of the shooters I came across were not the most athletic or skilled players. But they had great shooting mechanics and a smooth consistent release. The one thing that can be said about good shooters is that they’re consistent. Meaning routine and reliable. The mechanics are the same every time they release a shot.
Golf is a great sport to compare to basketball. Golf is a game were skill is rewarded more often athletic ability. Great shooting is a skill, and a great shooter can be the most un-athletic player on the court but at the same time can be the most deadly. Great golfers create a consistent and effective swing that works with their body type. The golfer will then work on that form until the muscle memory becomes natural. A good shooter will do the same, remember the goal is consistency. Kobe Bryant, Reggie Miller, Ray Allen and Stephen Curry all great shooters, will typically put up about 800-1000 shots during a full length practice. Throughout the course of the year that Is roughly 32,500 shots just at practice! It is that type of repetition and dedication that makes a shooter great!
